Genaro Mendez looks out the window of the bedroom in front of the spot where his brother-in-law Ricardo Gutierez died. The spot is marked by a candle and a glass container of water (as per mayan tradition). Ricardos sandals are still in their place. Dominga Gutierrez is timid in entering the room with her son Mauricio who suffers from autism. Ricardo Gutierrez was one of the over 360 illegal immigrants that were detained after a raid on Michael Bianco Inc. in March 2007. Mr. Gutierrez was deported to his native Guatemala leaving his wife Dominga Gutierrez and a son Mauricio Gutierrez, 8, who suffers from autism. After arriving in Guatemala Mr. Gutierrez decided to come back illegaly to be with his wife and son. Upon arriving Mr. Gutierrez passed away in their appartment in the south end of New Bedford.
