An inmate walks out into the courtyard light on his way to the mess hall for some lunch, as seen through the glass protected bars of the security office.  The Bristol County Jail and House of Correction on Ash St. in New Bedford, MA was built in 1829 and is the oldest operating jail in the country.  Almost all of the inmates at the jail are awaiting trial date.  Eighteen of the inmates have been sentenced and are active in the maintenance of the facility. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROJECT
