The students were at the Whitfield-Manjiro house in Fairhaven, MA for an english class. The Whitfield-Manjiro house is the home where Manjiro Nakahama, the first Japanese person to live in America, stayed after being rescued from a Pacific Island by captain William H. Whitfield in 1841.
