D. Jordan Berson, Whaling Museum Director of Collections, sprays a diluted adhesive that fixes the pigment to the cloth and humidifies the canvas, over a section of the Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage Around the World painting, as part of a long term restoration project. The painting which was completed in 1848 by Benjamin Russell and Caleb Purrington is considered the longest painting in the world at 1275 feet long. That is longer than the Empire State Building is tall. Once per day, Mr. Berson will roll out another section from the drums on either side and repeat the process. He has done over 700 feet up to this point.
