Visitors from Tosashimizu, Japan pay their respects to Capt. William Whittfield buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven, MA.  Capt. Whitfield was responsible for bringing the first Japanese person to the United States in 1843, when his whaling ship rescued Nakahama Manjiro during a whaling voyage in the Pacific.  This group hails from the Manjiro's hometown in Tosashimizu, Japan, and came to Fairhaven for the Manjiro Festival Tour, celebrating the steps taken by the first Japanese person to live in the United States.
